Road Trip 2002

Hoover Dam

Home Carlsbad Caverns Grand Canyon Hoover Dam Las Vegas Los Angeles Hearst Castle Napa Valley San Francisco Goin' Home

Monday, Apr 8

We decided to get up early at the Canyon to see the sunrise.  The cliffs and formations do look different in the early light.  While we were watching the sunrise, a herd of Mule Deer came walking across the parking lot and onto the Hotel lawn.

We left the Canyon after breakfast and drove another section of Route 66.  This section was not as interesting as the sections we drove in New Mexico.  We got to Hoover Dam about 1:ish.  Lots of security, but none of it seemed very effective.  No trucks or R.V.'s are allowed to cross the Dam and we went thru a sort of security check to get inside the Dam.  The tours are greatly abbreviated from the past, but still pretty interesting.   We went down below to see the generating rooms.

The scale of the Dam and Lake keeps any photos from reflecting the true size of the Dam.  It is incredible!
